TUZHE PACKAGING GUIDE

Decorated Cookie Sets: Make a Height Map Before Choosing Box Depth

Record backing, cookie body, raised decoration and wrapper height at each position before reviewing a shallow display box.

AI design concept: shallow white TUZHE cookie carton with one continuous scalloped-corner window, shown closed and empty

A flat biscuit and an iced cookie may share the same outline while needing different space above the backing card. A raised message plaque, piped flower or folded wrapper can become the highest point. Before choosing a shallow display box, record where those high points occur in the intended assortment.

Map the finished decoration, not the cutter

Start with the cookies as they will be packed. A cutter drawing identifies an outline; it does not show the baked thickness, applied decoration or final wrapping. Give each design a position code and keep that code on a top photograph and a side photograph. Where handmade pieces vary, record the observed range and the specimens reviewed. Do not turn a single neat example into an assumed limit for the whole batch.

Use the common backing surface as the reference plane. The useful question is the occupied height above that surface after loading. Measuring one cookie from the table and another from the top of its card makes the results difficult to compare.

Separate the layers that use the closed space

Record the backing, cookie body, raised decoration and wrapper as distinct contributors. The highest wrapper fold may be beside the cookie rather than directly above it. When the final measurement is taken from the assembled backing surface, do not add that same backing thickness again.

Ask the packaging supplier where the usable height is measured in the closed carton. A nominal outside box depth is not a statement of the distance between the loaded backing and the underside of the window film. Folded edges, overlap and the proposed construction need to be represented on the sample or drawing.

Position Observe and record Why it matters
Plain or flat-iced cookie Highest finished surface, including the actual baked body Establishes the occupied profile of this design, not every cookie in the set
Raised plaque or piped detail Height and location of the projecting detail relative to the backing A small local projection can control the required closed space
Individually wrapped piece Occupied outline and highest fold in the intended packed state Extra space may be needed outside the food outline
Mixed arrangement Position code, orientation and neighboring pieces Moving a design to another position changes the configuration being reviewed

Review a height map alongside the window view

Mark the highest point at each position on the top-view photograph. Keep the physical height record separate from the parts of the decoration that should remain visible through the window. These two checks answer different questions: the film may leave a motif visible while still being too close to it, or a paper frame may hide a detail without touching it.

Do not press the window down to judge fit or flatten a wrapper solely to obtain a better photograph. Use the normal closed state and inspect the sample carefully. If the geometry cannot be seen clearly, request a drawing or a suitable inspection sample instead of calling an uncertain gap acceptable.

Choose a layout response with evidence

If a raised detail conflicts with the cover, record the position and the stage where contact occurs. Possible proposals include a different arrangement, a deeper carton or a revised backing system. Each proposal requires a fresh fit review; lowering the cookie count alone does not explain which height problem has been solved.

Keep any retention method as a separate decision. A flat backing does not by itself define how a cookie will be held, and a taller box does not establish that decoration will remain undisturbed during handling. Use the divider, label and access guide for the wider layout questions.

Bring the real assortment to sample review

BRP Box Shop’s sample guidance recommends evaluating packaging with actual baked goods and comparing suitable sizes or depths. That supports a practical review with the intended contents; it does not establish a universal clearance or a TUZHE specification.

Send the coded photographs, observed heights, backing and wrapping details with the packaging brief. Record exactly which assortment and drawing revision pass the review in the sample approval record. A later seasonal decoration change should trigger a check of the affected positions, even when the cookie cutter and outside box size stay the same.

For a shallow format with one continuous window and a flat backing, review our scalloped-window cookie box concept alongside your height map. The illustrations define a design direction; the loaded physical sample must establish fit.
